The Sid and Pat May Scholarship was first established to honor Sid May in 2001.  His wife, Pat May set up the annual scholarship for a graduating Hurst Euless Bedford I.S.D. student, who attended Midway Park Elementary.  Sid May opened Midway Park elementary school and worked there until he retired.  Sid was a strong school teacher and coach before becoming a principal.  Sid was a strong silent type that used his dry sense of humor to lighten the world of those around him.  He was a leader that teachers loved and respected. He was great at finding talented teachers and leaders.  At the time of his retirement the majority of H.E.B.I.S.D. elementary school principals were originally hired by him as classroom teachers.
     Pat May was a teacher and administrator in H.E.B.I.S.D.  After she taught 1st and 2nd grade, while a school Secretary, Pat became Curriculum Coordinator, and ultimately Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools.  Known as the "First Lady of Hurst Euless Bedford I.S.D." she was an intelligent and articulate persuader who made children and adults strive to be their very best.  Pat had a gift for words of encouragement that is legendary.  In 1995, Pat retired to care for Sid as he battled Alzheimer’s disease.  Sid passed away in 2001. Although, Pat retired she remained active in H.E.B. schools volunteering, mentoring and sponsoring student and new teachers, a teacher until the very end.  Pat May passed away at the age of 92 in 2019.  It was at that time that the Sid May scholarship became the Sid and Pat May Scholarship.  The foundation honors the original effort to award a scholarship to a future teacher graduating from HEBISD schools.
